Parents Summary
Delhi is, like all big indian cities unsuited for staying there with children. Though exhaust gas pollution is much less than used to be or still is in Bangalore, it is still bad. Nevertheless, most travelers pass through Delhi, simply because most of the international flights arrive here. Additionally, Delhi is a good place for shopping and so you can always find quite a few traveling families there.
Activities in and around Delhi

Childrens park near India Gate: Give your children a real taste of India on the big childrens playground near India Gate. On sundays and in the evenings hundreds of indian families flock there and form large lines waiting for their turn at the slides.

Playing in Pahar-Ganj-Area: If you want to get your children the opportunity to roam freely in Paharganj-area (without exposing them to the danger of ending up under a riksha), a good choice is the cemetery behind the Paharganj post office. map
Accommodation with Children in Delhi
We didn't find a perfect place to stay with children jet. Delhi is in general no place to be with children.

Hotel Namaskar: In Paharganj-area, our favourite place is Hotel Namaskar, in a side-lane, 5 min walk from the railway station. Even though it lacks essentials like a roof terrace, a courtyard or a lobby, where you could let your children play, it has the advantage of not decaying over the years. Thanks to the canny management by the owners, the rooms keep their standard and when you book a room, you can be sure, it's yours. map

Anoop Hotel: Hotel Anoop has the advantage of a 24h-checkout. For some combinations of arrival/departure-times this may make you pay one night less than in a 12-noon-checkout hotel. Anoop has some good rooms upstairs with windows. Others are cage-like and nor very attractive. Due to the 24h-checkout, there is constant movement in the hotel, so you will most likely find a room at any time of the day. map

Vivek Hotel: Vivek Hotel is another nice choice in Pahar Ganj. On top of the hotel you will find a nice restaurant, and the rooms are clean enough. The only drawback is the location of the hotel at an intersection of two main roads in Pajar Ganj. It can be noisy during nighttime. map

Cottage Ganga Inn: This little gem is situated directly behind Hotel Vivek in a totally enclosed courtyard. Therefore the place peaceful and quiet, well protected from the frenzy of the main bazaar. The rooms are spacious, impeccably clean, have TV and fridge and windows to the courtyard. A third storey is being constructed, and a rooftop restaurant shall crown the place, once it is ready. Definitely worth the price. map

Price: Rs 700-800, with A/C Rs 950-1150
Major's Den: This old time travellers favourite offers simple but a little murky rooms. Though the rooms and the beds are really spacious, they weigh down on the visitor because of the unfavourable blue colour and the indirect light arriving only through the bathroom. But the place isn't too noisy and has a spacious and sunny roof. For some, it might be a good solution. map

Price: Rs 500, with A/C Rs 650
Ajay Guesthouse: Opposite of Anoop Hotel and connected with it is Ajay Guesthouse with clean rooms of very different shape. Check several rooms before you move in. Unfortunately the rooftop restaurant is unshaded, so go for the neighbouring Hare Rama Guesthouse or Anoop Rooftop, if you want to eat with children. map

Price: Rs 350 to Rs 1500
Hotel Polonia: Just opposite Majors Den is the much more upmarket Hotel Polonia. It has clean and spacious rooms, the more expensive of them with own, small balconies. TV and fridge is a must in this class, but what makes this hotel outstanding is the small pool on the rooftop, completed with a small changing cubicle. But if you don't emphasize swimming too much, the hotel is definitely overpriced. map

Shree Aurobindo Ashram: Peaceful, clean and nice, but inconveniently located is the Shree Aurobindo Ashram on Aurobindo Marg in the south of Delhi. Spacious rooms set around a system of courtyards invite for a longer stay. The rooms are nice, spacious and clean and have attached bathroom (600 Rs). On the ashram premises you find lots of greenery, a sports complex and a big garden.
Address: Aurobindo Marg
Price: 600 Rs
Places to eat in Delhi
Delhi is full of places to eat, and nearly all of them have items on their menue that fit to kids taste.

Anoop-Hotel: In Paharganj-area, the rooftop of Anoop-Hotel is a good place to eat with children. They have a large, shaded area as well as a big unshaded space, the surrounding handrail is mostly child-save, the place is open 24 hours - and you can't complain about the food. map
Price: 100Rs
Rooftop of Hare Rama: Just over Main Bazaar from Anoop you will find Hare Rama rooftop. The place has the distinction of presenting a load of brass statues, children could possibly play with and a billiard table for the grown ups. Part of the place is shaded, but the food is the usual Continental-Israeli-Indian thing. map
Price: mains from Rs 60 - Rs 120
Malhotra Restaurant and Dosa Place: The two neighbouring places are some of the very few middle class places in Pahar Ganj. The food is excellent, even though the location is small. It used to be an insider's tip, but now it's often full of Indians. map
Address: 1833, L.N. Street, opp. Imperial Cinema
Tel: 011/23581849, 41698500, 41698900
The Kitchen Cafe: Set atop of Hotel Shelton and overlooking the busy main bazaar street, this mostly shaded roof-toppie offers a lot of pot plants, an escalator, and a range of Italian, Mexican, Israeli, Chinese and Continental kitchen. Did I forget the Indian? Food is ok, the sizzler is very popular. map
Address: 5043 Main Bazaar
Price: mains 50-140
